A contract manufacturer built by someone who's been on the OEM side
Privately owned and veteran-led, with U.S. manufacturing roots dating to 1974 and a team built around what medical device companies actually need from a partner.
UTP Solutions is a privately owned, veteran-led medical device contract manufacturer with U.S. manufacturing roots dating to 1974. Formerly Chippewa Plastics, the company has been building tools and molding parts for five decades. President Ryan Eggleston, a U.S. Army combat medic veteran and medical device industry veteran, took the helm in April 2024. In October 2024 the company added precision machining and became UTP Solutions, a partner with an ISO 13485 certified quality system and an FDA-registered U.S. facility, built around what device companies need from manufacturing.

Why UTP exists
Before leading UTP, our President spent years on the OEM side in quality, regulatory affairs and operations, bringing devices through design controls, human factors, launch and manufacturing transfers. Again and again, he watched contract manufacturers miss what mattered: the requirements behind a drawing, the change that should have been flagged, the launch date that couldn't slip.
UTP was built to be the partner he couldn't find. That means engineers who understand design history files and validation, a design transfer process that carries user requirements into manufacturing instead of losing them in the handoff, and a team that tells you about a problem before you find it.
What drives us
Our mission is to work alongside our customers to make the world safer, healthier and more mobile, while driving innovation. For our President, that mission is personal. As a U.S. Army combat medic, his job was to protect the people in front of him. When he left the Army, he wanted work that could protect far more people than he could ever treat one at a time. Every device we help build reaches patients and clinicians we will never meet. That is the point.
Five decades, one direction
Founded
The company that became UTP begins toolmaking and injection molding in Michigan.
New leadership
Ryan Eggleston takes the helm in April, bringing OEM experience in quality, regulatory affairs, operations and manufacturing transfers.
UTP Solutions
In October, precision machining joins molding and tooling, and Chippewa Plastics becomes UTP Solutions.
One integrated partner
Swiss and 5-axis machining, scientific molding on 16 presses from 22T to 950T, an ISO Class 8 cleanroom, assembly and supply chain support, all under one Integrated Management System.
AS9100D
Aerospace certification targeted for 2027, extending the same discipline to more of the programs we support.
Where we're headed
- A partner for emerging medtech. Early-stage device companies get DFM, prototype tooling and first articles from a team that thinks like an OEM, with no minimum order.
- One system, the strictest standard. ISO 13485, ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and CMMC under one Integrated Management System, aligned with FDA's QMSR, with AS9100D next.
- Automation where it pays. Collaborative robots and in-house end-of-arm tooling where volume justifies them, and skilled people everywhere else.
- Measured by delivery. More than 99% on time and in full, with fewer than 100 PPM defects over a rolling 24 months.
Leadership
Ryan Eggleston, President
Ryan served as a combat medic in the U.S. Army before building a medical device career in quality, regulatory affairs and operations at Stryker Instruments, Skytron, Aspen Surgical and Everis Medical. Over that career he has supported dozens of product launches and manufacturing transfers across a global supply chain, including leading operations for Everis Medical's acquisitions from 2019 to 2024.
He took the helm of the company in April 2024, added precision machining and the UTP Solutions name that October, and built UTP's design transfer and manufacturing transfer processes on lessons learned from both sides of the table.
